Your shopping here in Kolkata won’t be complete without taking something made of terracotta. If you travel closely into the interiors of Bengal, you will see the temples are often made with terracotta panels because of the lack of stones in this geography. The most famous figurine is the horse which is available in various sizes. These Bankura terracotta horses have tall ears and you can put them up in your drawing room, at the entrance door, or in front of your mirror. Apart from the intricately designed horses, you will find many other statues and things (like boats, ships, flower vase, etc.) made from terracotta that will elevate your home décor.

The rest of India is simply fascinated with the red-bordered white saree which every woman in Bengal wears during any religious festival. Apart from that saree, you also have plenty of options to choose from. These cotton sarees are very comfortable, easy to carry and make you look gorgeous. The soft yet crisp Taant saree generally has pastel or light colours as the base with bright colours used only for the patterns on the borders or small bootis on the Sari and vice versa (Priyanka Chopra in Gundaay flaunted many such Taant sarees).

Baluchari is another famous saree type which is a must-buy here. What makes them different than the rest is that these sarees are more like a story-telling on silk material. On raw silk, the talented weavers of Bankura weave the patterns on the borders and pallu that are mostly seen on temple walls or mentioned in the mythologies. You may see Lord Krishna & Radha in such sarees or a particular scene from the Mahabharata. The base colour of Balucharis is of raw silk while the stories are woven with bright colours like red, green, or purple. Isn’t that a great way to flaunt your history, tradition, and culture?

Shola Handicrafts:

Sola or Shola or Solapith – is also known as Indian Cork. This soft, lightweight, and milky white thing is the dried core of a plant that grows on the marshy wetlands of West Bengal. The artisans come up with beautiful pieces of art that you can take back home. The garlands that you see on Gods & Goddesses here are mostly made from Sola. You also must have seen the face of Goddess Durga in white material – they are carved from Solapith. Apart from the small art pieces of deities, you will also find many other things made from Sola and they all are amazing. As they are lightweight material, you will often find them glued to a solid base and some comes in a glass or fiber frame too so that you can carry them safely.

Darjeeling Tea:

This tea-loving state is also the producer of one of the finest qualities of teas across the world. Darjeeling Tea must be at the top of your shopping list in case you are an intense tea lover. You will surely find many shops to pick up this world-famous tea, but, you must stick to the old tea houses only for the sake of authenticity. There are a few such old and renowned shops in Dharmatala & College Street and you must talk to your hotel managers or local guides to find you the best shop. There is a great variety of Darjeeling Tea – the costliest ones are leafier than the refined lower grades. You will also find black and green colours too. So, take your time and sniff well to search for your kind of tea here.

Conch Shells:

The artisans of Bengal hold the conch shells and chip off parts of it to reveal a story or to make patterns. In our ancient tales, we often hear that to initiate anything, the sound of conch shells was believed to be auspicious. It is still believed so. The conch shell sound is often heard two times a day in any normal household in Bengal (as they offer prayers to God). This sound is believed to clean the air from all negative energies.

To blow the conch shell, one needs to put an effort through their mouth and Doctors say that it is a great breathing exercise. So, you can take some conch shells (available in a variety of shapes and sizes) and enhance the positivity at your home. You will also find bangles made from conch shells here which are usually worn by married Bengali women. These bangles are also convolutedly designed and you can buy them for the special woman in your life.

Food is everything for you. If the refrigerator is out of order, you will cancel all your appointments and sit back home to finish every item so that they are not wasted. You always make a point to save your food from getting wasted. Sharing food – the very thought appalls you. If you see a packet of food (or pizza box) lying in front of someone’s door or beside the dust bin – you feel no shame in checking if there is food inside it. If it has, you simply take that home and finish it. To you – food is love, food is freedom, and food is also a very big part of your dreams.

As long as it pays your bills – if you are also happy doing any kind of job, then, you have a Joey inside you.

Joey always had the funniest, craziest, and the most memorable expressions when other friends used to reveal their secrets to him. Remember that episode where he finds out Chandler and Monica are seeing each other? If you also have the same way of reacting to your friend’s secrets – you know who you are in your group. And your friends also share the gossips with you – just to see you react!

You Do Anything For Your Friends:

A friend in need is a friend indeed and you live by that phrase. You simply don’t care about anything when you have to save your friends. And you will pick up a fight with the neighbor next door for your friends. You console your friends when they need and like Joey, you can also pee on your friends if that’s the call of the hour.

Your Best Friend Is Your Soulmate:

In the group of friends, Chandler and Joey were the best friends. More than that they were soulmates, to be honest. The place Chandler had in Joey’s mind, heart, and life – was the most special one which he never gave to anyone else (not even to all those girls he dated). Do you feel the same bond with your best friend? Do you look at the chair next to you and feel like ringing him up and share your thoughts when he is not around?

You Are Proud of Who You Are:

You never ever apologize for being yourself even when people think you should. This means you accept the way you are. You know that you are perfect in your own sweet way and this self-confidence is what many people lack.

You Are A True Fashion Guru:

Like Joey do you have great looks and a fit body? Is there hardly any outfit in this world that you cannot pull off? For Joey – from the doctor’s dress of being Dr. Ramorey or the Soldier outfit in the Casino to the properly suited look for Ross’s wedding – Joey rocked in whatever he wore. Also not to forget – the ladies handbag that Joey carried for some time.

Defeat Never Defeats You:

Joey has been chucked out his shows many times, he lost many auditions, he lost many jobs, and many girls left him. But all these setbacks never ever let him go down. He has a funky and cheerful spirit for life. Joey is the strongest of the lot and this trait of him is salute-worthy. That’s why his friends love him so much for his “never say die” attitude. If you also carry the same attitude, you are the Joey of your friend circle.

Every relationship asks for something or the other. And everyone, be it a man or a woman has basic expectations out of their romantic relationship. This question waltz in everyone’s brain when they are in a relationship. “What does he want?” is what every woman seeks an answer to.

This question has been asked by women in the past, today, and it will always be asked in the future too. Reason being no one really knows what they want. But these basic cornerstones to form a healthy or a stable foundation for any relationship is what you could know & keep in mind.

There are times when your relationship gets rocky and you don’t know what went wrong. This is when the question arises, you ask your partner multiple times what do they want and they have no answer. Your partner goes all mum because they really don’t know how to make you understand what they want. Talking about Understanding, let’s start listing the 4 things that a man expects from his relationship (P.s. I assumed this is what they want)

1.  Understanding
Understanding

The basic requirement of any relationship is “mutual understanding.” Men expect their lady to understand them (even if they DON’T). It’s expected out of you that you understand why your man was late to the date night or why hasn’t he answered your calls. But keeping aside the silly reasons, he really expects from you to understand if he had a long tiring day when he’s occupied with a pile of work or anything that requires his attention. He wants you to ‘GET’ him like no one else. And if your partner lacks this cornerstone, the best exercise is to communicate. The more you communicate and share your life experiences, the more it will help your partner to understand you.

2.  Companionship
Companionship

With a better understanding comes companionship. No one likes to be alone. Similarly, men hate being alone. And when they are with someone they expect to spend time with their partner. On one hand, they want their woman to have meaningful conversations and on the other, they also want to have fun dates with them. They love it when their woman loves or even shows interest in what they love to do. Isn’t it exciting when you have similar interests? And then you decide and plan to hang out doing exactly what you both like? But isn’t it important to indulge and know what you partner likes? Men really appreciate when their woman spends time, let’s say, playing games with them (Mind games aren’t appreciated), watching their favourite Football team play, going out for adventures or whatever that your man likes to do. It’s the same when you like him being around while you splurge on shopping or get your nails done (how sexist, eh?) But yeah, this explains the 2nd cornerstone.

3.  Intimacy
Intimacy

One thing that men really expects or wants from his relationship is intimacy. Quite a lot of men are actually vocal about this topic. Few of them have clear intentions about intimacy, that it is one of the important things in a relationship. But there are a few for whom the relationship revolves around this. For the former part, I’d suggest you stick around and try to learn what & how things evolve to have that intimate relationship. But for the latter, you must pack your bags and leave. Intimacy is a biological need and nobody should be blamed for wanting it. With intimacy, comes a bit BUT (yeah that too, but that’s not the point here). Fulfillment in intimacy is what keeps both happy. It can help them get closer but isn’t the only thing that can keep the relationship last longer. The conclusion is, intimacy is important but isn’t enough. Anyway, it does play a vital role in being the 3rd cornerstone.

4.  Respect
Respect

I know I didn’t start with ‘Respect’ as the first cornerstone, but nevertheless, it’s the most important one. Respect is important for the teenager that just started to experience what a relationship feels like, or for one who had a divorce. Respect is one important cornerstone that builds a relationship stronger, no matter what the relation is. Even a relationship with your pet requires respect (not that I’m comparing your romantic relationship to that). It is for both and not necessarily for men to expect respect out of a relationship. It is required to survive. Men expect that if you allow them to be their selves you’re being respectful to them. If you feel you’re clueless about how to show that you do respect him, here are few ways; don’t judge his thoughts or opinions, don’t make ‘awkward’ gestures when you don’t agree with him, be grateful/thank him for his favors and help.

Practicing these basics can really help your relationship in a healthier way. These are the 4 basic things that I believe men really expect from their relationship. So if you are a man reading this blog, I know you’d agree but if you’re a woman I am with you when it comes to understanding men, just how it’s tough for them to understand “Women”.

And a big thank you if you made it this far while reading this blog. Drop some feedback in the comment section below.

I fall in that group of introverts but also my author bio says with pride that I can gel like an extrovert. Which one is true will be a complicated question. In my defense, I would like to say that for the sake of the so-called “norms”, “rules”, “livelihood”, and “social prestige” – I have to become extrovert at times.

Like all introverts, I also choose the people for my vicinity in a calculative manner. But alas with time and events, I have lost many close ones – some left me, and I left some. Those emotionally crazy moments in my life have broken me for sure but have also raised me valiantly. A small portion of me still has hope in people. But seriously the major part inside me stays away from all the brouhaha. With a single status (which I don’t see changing anytime soon), over the years, I have developed a beautiful love affair with inanimate things – things that are not made up of flesh and blood.

Why? Because with experiences I have found that these “things” have always held me up in my bad days just like the best buddy. When happiness surrounds me – I am bound to get people around me but when calamity hits me – I have often seen the absence of close people. Therefore, my expectation even from my bestest friends has also drowned.

This blog is a personal experience about love and relationships where there is no tangible human face. It is dedicated to all those inanimate heroes who have accepted me whole-heartedly with a promise of forever love.

The World of Movies:

It is a vast world indeed. There are various actors, directors, stories, and languages to lean on over the weekends, vacations, in flight, or amidst the crowd in local trains. Yes, you may say there are intense human faces and human stories etched in these movies. But they don’t jump off in my room – they are always on screen and never off it. The beautiful locales, interesting plots, and brilliant direction of movies engines my creativity, lets me assume the world, and of course, enhances my knowledge about people. Movies are like oxygen to me – I need it more than anything else. I fall asleep while watching movies (yeah, it’s a lullaby too) and I wake up to watch them. When I am working, a part of me is planning “what to watch today?” Can there be any fulfilling relationship like this one?

The Yummy Food Saga:

Initially, I used to like food and that’s why I never tried to prepare them. But now I love food and that’s why I now know to prepare food. The fresh vegetables, variety of spices and condiments, and proper utensils hold a big area in my love life. Those who have eaten my recipes have patted my back and that’s when I understood food & I – we form an amazing couple together.

My Dear Diary:

Being a writer, can I say I don’t keep a diary? The amazing thoughts that run in my head after or while watching movies or having good food – immediately find a place in my “dearest diary”. Sometimes, I feel that no one knows me better than the pages of my diary. They know my strengths and weaknesses, ambition and heartaches – all.

The Pages of Books:

A Bengali and his/her love or addiction for books are very common. From Tagore to Sharatchandra, from Shakespeare to Sunil Ganguly – I have read many pages, fell in love with the writer or the character intensely. Nothing is fulfilling than waking up to a weekend with a hot mug of ginger tea and a nice book for company.

Apart from books, any online article or Wikipedia page of subjects of my interests occupy my time largely. This habit of reading often leads me to think deeper and understand better.

The Happy Lipsticks:

I have lost count of how many of them I own. When I started my obsession with lipsticks, I had a target of buying 2 every month. But now the buying habit totally depends on my mood and the sale running in my favourite cosmetics website. Since childhood, I was fascinated with lipsticks and now, it has grown into a passion. Red is my most favourite shade and I have all types of red I guess in my kitty. With lipstick also comes the pout-pose (which I call poutopia) and countless selfies.

There are times during the weekend or holidays when I get up in the morning and after taking a bath, I apply lipstick, sit with my beloved movie/book/diary and continue my beautiful and gratifying love affair.

Basically, these abstract things make me feel happy and satisfied which I have never felt in my romantic episodes.

Munnabhai M.B.B.S., Lage Raho Munnabhai, 3 Idiots, PK, Sanju – this is the filmography of a genius named Rajkumar Hirani who is lovingly known as Raju Hirani. Most of the audience and members of the critic circuit divide Cinema into two broad groups – Art Cinema & Commercial Cinema. But this man has broken those fences. His cinema is worshipped by the masses and clapped by the critics. They win awards too and give a stronghold to one’s career.

Every single person who is associated with the movie-making business wants profit. That’s why a good story is a prime requirement. The idea of stories that we see on movies is largely based on the time we are living. Each era has some kind of challenges and moviemakers over the years have tapped in this area to create stories. Some directors simply highlight the features of the time like Anurag Kashyap in Gangs of Wasseypur or Raman Raghav 2.0. And then there are some directors like Ritwick Ghatak or Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra who have tried to bring a revolution through their lenses. But Raju Hirani is a man of vision who doesn’t like walking the road with strong slogans to change the system. He has his signature way of striking the belief system of people.

My answer to the mentioned question of why Raju Hirani movies influence people has four answers that are mentioned below.

Larger Than Life Characters:

Larger than life characters doesn’t necessarily mean that the central character has to wear a Prada/Louboutin, walk-in stilettos, carry machine guns, etc. In Raju Hirani movies, the “larger than life” characters are different than what you have seen so far in Bollywood. They may not be rich but they are filled with extraordinary and revolutionary thoughts. Think of Munnabhai – a mafia of sorts who is fueled by revenge and instead of taking up the gun takes the route of simplicity and humanity to change the dean of a medical college (rather change the norms of the society). Think of PK – an alien who has no address in this big world, has no wealth, or has no motive, still gets robbed. He questions the methods we run the world and wins our hearts.

These larger than life characters are required in a country that is still considered to be poor. But the reality is in our country the percentage of middle-class is more. And that means there is a dream among masses to grow more and achieve success. This is where Raju Hirani succeeds. His movies are an inspiration to many because his characters always start from scratch and work very hard to gain success in the end.

The Art of Saying Simple Things Simply:

There is no need to stretch things unnecessarily when it can be resolved with simple discussions. Farhan Qureshi of 3 Idiots wanted to become a wildlife photographer but he couldn’t say those words simply to his father. Because he belongs to a middle-class family where his dad thinks that if my son becomes an engineer, we will lead a better life with comforts and luxury (that was a rampant thought in the ’80s and ’90s in India and still continues). That scene where he returns home skipping his “campus interview” and talks to his dad – makes everyone cry their heart out.

His Unique Campaigns:

Just think of the campaigns that his characters perform on screen and you will understand why his movies are so special. The campaigns that he runs in his stories are about bringing a change in the lifestyle of people with simple mechanisms. With Munnabhai M.b.B.S. he made “Jaadu ki Jhappi” so famous and so endearing. Whosoever in your family or close circle is shouting or throwing tantrums must be hugged. Why? Because no one actually is bad or walks with bad intentions of hurting others. He/she must be having a reason for that behaviour. And rather than judging, one must be compassionate and considerate towards them. With a simple hug, the anger melts down and you can then connect with that person in a better way.

In Lage Raho Munnabhai, he taught us “Gandhigiri”. The face of Baapu whom we see on notes has become almost obsolete in current times. Raju Hirani simply took up the Gandhian simple and honest way of living to bring changes. But again, the change won’t come in a single day. (Remember that pan stain scene?)

In 3 Idiots, he made one thing very clear to students and parents – don’t run after success, run after excellence, then, success will follow you. Whatever one likes, wherever the passion lies – one should continue honing that only day after day. That’s the simplest way to be both- happy and successful.

Reassuring Faith In Good:

In spite of so many dark areas, mistakes, and atrocities, he always shows us that “good” always meet us in the end. The evil or bad-men in his movies don’t die or get punished. He makes these characters understand the value of goodness and their ideology and principles change. That’s how life should also be. There is always a good and bad person inside all of us. The moment one understands the fact that there is nothing valiant about being bad – the change happens. That’s what happened to Lucky Singh in Lage Raho or Dean in Munnabhai or Virus in 3 Idiots. Therefore, he also hammers on the theory of “forgiveness”. Those who have done something bad must be forgiven so that they get a chance to improve themselves.

Now, who else can connect with the audience like that?

Eggs contain 155 calories, 16% of fat, 13 gms of protein, and a good amount of Vitamin A and D. Some like it in breakfast plate while some love it with rice. In various corners of India, it is consumed in different styles. My mom and granny used to cook the spicy and zesty egg curry where potatoes used to be a prime ingredient. Over the years while staying alone, I have found a comfort zone in my kitchen. So, over the weekend, holiday time, or when the mood is just right, I enter the kitchen to create something new and unique. It is really thrilling to experiment with the known spices.

The age-old recipes made with poppy seeds and cashew nuts always turns out tasty and this egg curry is made with these two prime ingredients. In order to cook something new and royal to impress yourself or any of your loved ones – do try this recipe once.

What All You Need?
  • Eggs: 6
  • Onion: 3 large
  • Garlic: 20 cloves
  • Bay Leaf: 1
  • Black Cardamom: 1
  • Green Cardamom: 1
  • Cinnamon: 1 Stick
  • Cumin Seeds: 2 tsp
  • Fennel Seeds: ½ tsp
  • Salt: As per taste:
  • Sugar: Just a pinch or two
  • Curd: ½ cup
  • Milk: 1 cup
  • Hot Water: 1 cup
  • Cashew Nuts: 10-12 pieces
  • Grated Coconut: 3 tsp
  • Poppy Seeds: 3 tsp
  • Green Chilies: 4-5
  • Black Pepper: 4 tsp
  • Cumin Powder: ½ tsp
  • Coriander Powder: ½ tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder: ½ tsp
  • Turmeric: Just a pinch or two to color the eggs
  • Butter: 50 gms
  • Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves: 2 tsp
  • Kasuri Methi: 1 tsp
How To Make?
  • Take 2 onions and make a paste and keep it aside.
  • Soak the cashew nuts and poppy seeds in hot water for 30-40 minutes first in separate bowls.
  • Now take the cashew nuts, add grated coconut, and poppy seeds and make a fine paste.
  • Slit the green chilies vertically, slice the garlic longitudinally, and finely chop 1 remaining onion.
  • Take half cup curd and whisk it until smooth. You may add 2-3 spoons of water if needed.
  • Now boil the eggs. Remember that you need hard-boiled eggs for this recipe. So, you will need to boil for 10-15 minutes.
  • After that keep the eggs into a bowl of ice-cold water for 5-7 minutes.
  • Now peel the eggshells and pat them dry.
  • Take 1/4th spoon of salt, ½ tsp of turmeric, and ½ tsp of black pepper powder and smear the eggs in them. Remember to prick the eggs before smearing the spice mix on them. Keep the eggs covered in spice mix for 10-15 minutes.
  • Take a spoon of butter and 1 tsp of refined oil and add the eggs and fry them very well. The outer skin of the eggs should become golden brown. Keep these eggs aside.
  • Now take 3/4th of the mentioned amount of butter and mix 3-4 tsp of refined oil and add the whole spices (cumin seeds, black & green cardamom, bay leaf, cinnamon, and fennel seeds). Let them crackle for a few seconds and then add the finely chopped onions.
  • Let the onions turn golden brown. To make them soften fast you may add a pinch of baking soda and sprinkle some salt.
  • Then add onion paste and stir for a minute. Then cover the pan for 2-3 minutes. Check if the onion paste has changed color.
  • Once the onions have changed color and became soft, you can add the powdered spices one after the other and stir for some time. Cover the pan for 2 minutes.
  • Remove the cover and add the poppy seeds + coconut + cashew nuts mixture and give a nice stir so that no lumps form at all.
  • Keep the flame on medium and cook this mixture for 3-4 minutes.
  • Now, add the curd mix and stir for another 2 minutes. Cover the lid and let all the spices mix together for at least 4 minutes.
  • Now add the cup of milk in this pool of aromatic curry and let it boil for 5 minutes.
  • Check the salt and sprinkle the remaining black pepper powder.
  • If you want more gravy then add hot water.
  • Finally, add the sugar and give a stir.
  • Now add the egg pieces and give a nice stir again.
  • Add the remaining butter and decorate with slit green chilies, sprinkle kasuri methi, and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  • Enjoy this heavenly delicacy with paratha, roti, or rice.

This supremely delicious egg curry was a result of experiments in the kitchen and I have got lovely reviews about it from everyone I have served. It is a wonderful weekend recipe, especially for monsoon and winter weather.

Do you love making her smile? I am sure that her smile brightens up your day, and knowing that beautiful smile is because of you is one of the greatest feelings in the world. At times making her smile might be easy, but at times it will be really difficult to turn that frown upside down. Well, that’s what you think! It is very easy to make her smile. It’s not about the big romantic gestures you do but about those little things you do without realizing things which make her feel like you care, and things which she finds adorable.

  1. Asking Her How Is She Doing?

You may not realize this but you’ve stopped asking her, and that is bound to happen. You talk to her every day, and it is not like you don’t know what’s happening. If there is something wrong, she will tell you, you don’t have to ask her this question formally. At times, she needs to feel like you care. Maybe she was feeling a little low last night when you do ask the next morning “How are you feeling now?”

Trust me, even if she was feeling low, this will uplift her mood.

  1. Send Her a Voice Note

You might be busy and do not have time to write a text, so you decide to send a voice note. Well, listening to your voice makes her smile. This makes her feel like you’re taking efforts and makes her feel special.

  2. Mid-Day Calls

You may call her at night when you’re free and have time for her. It is okay to do so, but when you call her in the middle of a busy day just to tell her that you love her, it will make her beam with joy. Even if it is for a minute, it will make her feel important.

  3. When You Get Jealous

She just came back from the party and starts telling you all about it. She tells you about her friends and then tells you about her guy friends, that little jealousy you have makes her smile. It makes her feel like you value her, and are afraid to lose her. Off course not being extremely jealous but a little jealous.

  4. Share Things with Her

When we go through problems, we share it with our partners. When you do share your problems with her, she not only tries her best to solve them but feels happy. She feels happy that you trust her enough to share things with her. She feels happy that you consider her as an important part of her life, hence your problems are not a burden for her.

  5. Respect Her Choices

Be a gentleman, and value her point of view. When you do that, she feels respected and valued. Make her feel like your equal, and she will be happy in true sense.

  6. Send Her Songs

You’re listening to a song, and it suddenly reminds you of her. Maybe because of the lyrics, or the music but it just reminds you of her. Send her the song, it will make her smile like a fool. She knows that you think about her, and makes her feel secure.

  7. Send Her a Text Telling Her How You Feel

You don’t have to send a long text with fancy words but simple words telling her how you feel. This makes her feel super special, and even a single line telling her how you feel makes her more special than a 3-page essay. You just need to be true.

  8. Honest Opinion over a Sugar Coated One

No matter what she says, she loves to hear the truth. This makes her feel that no matter what it is, you will tell her the truth and won’t cheat her because you are not someone who lies. She will always seek your advice because she knows it is genuine.

  9. When You Explain a Sport You Love

Almost every guy does it! She may not even know the basic rules of football, but when you explain it to her, she loves it. It makes her feel included and honestly the glow in your eyes make her feel happy.

  10. When You Do Silly Things to Get Her Attention

She may have been busy or angry at you, and you start acting silly just to make her smile or grab her attention. She likes it. You’re taking efforts and she likes it.

  11. When You Remember Something She Told You

Maybe you got her favorite chocolate or ask her how was her presentation at work? You remember something she told you, and you remember it. This is incredibly adorable to her.

You don’t have to make grand gestures to make her smile, but small things which do not take any time. What do you do, which makes her smile? Comment and let us know!

Some people say that “bargaining comes naturally to Indians” while some simply cannot bargain at all. Some even get scolded for paying a huge chunk to the shopkeeper. Then there are some people who bargain like a PRO and make their shopping companions feel safe. They are called for all shopping trips by the family members and relatives. One of my bargaining expert aunts says that bargaining is an art that shines with time and age. It is something that requires a lot of patience to roam around the market and continuous argument with the shopkeeper. So, if you are ok with these two conditions, then, becoming a PRO at bargaining would be cheesecake for you.

Here are some easy steps that you can follow which will definitely help you become a smart shopper.

Give A “Shocked” Expression Hearing the Price:

You must have watched Ekta Kapoor serials – right? So, play the melodramatic expressions of the leading actors getting surprised and shocked in your head and repeat them in real life. It works really well. Whatever the shopkeeper is quoting – you must be shocked and that ways it will be easier to coax the seller. Bring disbelief in your eyes and sound dramatic – this will be fun!

Be Smart When The Seller Is Cutting Down The Price:

The moment you sense that the seller or shopkeeper is ready to cut down the quoted price – seize the opportunity right away. Now push some more and see the limit how far he/she can cut down the price. It will definitely save you from spending some extra money.

Don’t Be Expressive:

The sellers or shopkeepers are way smarter than you are. They see thousands of people like you every day and thus it will take just a 5-second glance at your eyes or body language to know that you have liked a certain product at the shop. And once they know this fact, they also know that you will pay extra to own that object. So, never be expressive about your liking towards a particular thing you want to buy. Instead, be critical and ask questions about the price.

Walk Away & Make Them Run After You:

This may seem funny but it really works wonders. This trick always gets you what you want at your price. When you start bargaining and the seller is not ready to sell away the product at your price – simply walk away. Don’t go too far from the periphery of that shop and you will find that person coming back to you and asking “how much will you pay?” The seller will also negotiate to say “itne mein kaise hoga? (how to manage in this amount?) But you cannot give up. This movement is an indication that you will get your desired product.

Buy Multiple Items:

Always remember that the more you buy from one shop or seller – the brighter are the chances of getting lucrative discounts. Some shopkeepers won’t give that easily and you have to fight for it. Say the same thing repeatedly that you brought so many things and will recommend this shop to other friends and all the jazz. The shopkeeper cannot miss this chance of publicity after all.

Be Shameless:

Always remember that it is your hard-earned money that you will be spending on buying things and thus you have every right to bargain. So, be shameless in asking for more discounts or asking for cutting down the price a bit more.

Lie About Discounts Given To Friends:

Just tell the shopkeeper that a friend bought the same thing from this shop a week or a month ago at a reasonable price. So, why can he/she increase the price so much? Also, add emotional lines like “I came here because my friend said that this is one of the best shops in town and the owner is one gem of a person”. You will surely get what you want that way.

Always Believe That Everything Is Negotiable:

Last but not least, you have to believe that “everything you see in a market is absolutely negotiable”. Until and unless you mug up this point – you cannot be a PRO at bargaining. Try this even at shops where you see “price not negotiable”. A display board cannot decide what you are willing to pay after all.
