Who doesn’t love a good Netflix show? One such show is BoJack Horseman! Filled with dark humor, this animated comedy show covers a lot of untouched sensitive issues. It has taught me about life more than school ever did. The anthropomorphic, drunk horse taught me the truths no one ever told me. Everyone is too scared to talk about the sad things in life, well not BoJack!

BoJack has wasted so many years of his life! He was once a successful actor, but now instead of getting back to his life, he is still stuck on the phase of that one successful show- Horsin’ Around. Everyone in his life has moved on! Everyone who worked with him on the show, all of his friends and his entire family. He is left miserable, drunk & under the delusion that he is a superstar.

BoJack is rich. He made a lot of money and doesn’t even have to work to live a lavish lifestyle. But is he happy? Most of the times, he is drunk, grumpy & seems depressed. His sober identity is constantly thinking about how empty his life is & how messed up he is!

Remember the random old man from the show who jogs every morning around BoJack’s house. When BoJack attempts to be fit and starts to Jog, he falls down and is about to give up. The wise man comes along, helps him and tells him that “It gets easier every day.” You shouldn’t give up on things just because they seem tough, but keep trying because every day you learn something new which will make it easier.

We all have people who love us & care about us. And we often start taking them for granted. We think that they’re going to be there for us all the time and often forget to appreciate their efforts. Harsh reality- They Leave!

Todd was BoJack’s friend, cared for him even when BoJack treated him poorly, he stayed and cared for him. He stayed even after he had money, but once he realized that BoJack does not care at all!

Similarly, Princess Caroline left once she realized that BoJack wouldn’t change.

There is BoJack Horseman & then there is Mr. Peanutbutter! BoJack was the star of the show Horsin’ Around and Mr. Peanutbutter started with Mr. Peanutbutter’s House which was clearly a copied from Horsin’ Around. Despite this, everyone loves Mr. Peanutbutter, while BoJack is long forgotten! Why? Mr. Peanutbutter never gives up, he is positive & sees good in all situations. He has a very positive attitude towards life, cheerful & enthusiastic!

Everyone loves Mr. Peanutbutter. He seems like the perfect man every girl wants! Along with a good heart, he also has a very positive attitude towards life. He seems Perfect but he PURR-FECT!

Mr. Peanutbutter has his own flaws! He can get a little clingy in relationships, is a bit of a narcissist & cannot do many things but wouldn’t admit defeat!

He did not understand that his wives had a career & aspirations, always talked about how great he is & was definitely not a good politician.

When BoJack finds out that his Ex-Best Friend Herb Kazzaz is dying of cancer, he visits him to apologize for betraying him but Herb refuses!  He says he is clearly under no obligation to forgive & wants BoJack to live with the guilt for life. Sometimes it is better to confront the person you are rather than expecting others to forgive us!

Diane starts to feel like she needs to do something big for the world and follows the philanthropist Sebastian St. Clair, who is working at a war scene in Cordovia. She realizes that St. Clair is working for them just to get his name highlighted, boost his ego & and for his own gain. After all this, he was still doing a good thing. Diane eventually walked away from then cause and St. Clair because it simply didn’t feel right.

BoJack always wanted to be the star of The Secretariat’s Autobiography. He has waited for the role of secretariat his entire life as secretariat was his idol! When he did get the role, he learned more about his idol. This only made him feeling emptier than before.

BoJack has always wondered what it would be like if he left with Charlotte (His Friend & Herb’s Ex-girlfriend) to live in Maine. He always thought that there was a spark between them, but he was too scared to leave. When he decides to visit Charlotte to give it a try, it is too late! She is happily married with 2 kids. He instead wrecks things even more by getting involved with Charlotte’s daughter- Penny who is a teenager!

When BoJack’s Mother died, he felt the pain. He delivered a 20-minute long eulogy where it was clear that BoJack had a very perplexing relationship with his mom. He narrates everything- good & bad about the kind of relationship he shared with his mom only to realize that he does feel bad about her death. And he also realizes that there is never a happy ending or a sad one either. It is always mystifying!

The Show BoJack Horseman has covered a very important issue- Alcohol & Drug Abuse! BoJack has been portrayed as an Alcohol Addict and Sarah Lyyn as a Drug Addict.

BoJack Horseman often has blackouts for days! Sarah Lyyn dies because of Drug Overuse. We see BoJack hitting the rock bottom because of Substance Abuse & at the end of season 6, he finally decides to get help.

Well, that is something not learned from BoJack Horseman! We all can just can relate to BoJack on so many levels. That emptiness he feels, that is so relatable and scary!

It is frightening how a show with anthropomorphic characters teach us so much about life and how relatable it can be! It covers important issues like depression, asexuality, substance abuse, stardom, feminism, & so much more! So, if you haven’t seen the show, I strongly recommend you to.
